News from a Margaret River possum carer...
Possum Forum:
150 years ago the 1st settlers could smell the wild flowers 100 miles off the coast when they sailed towards WA. Now all you can smell 100 miles off the coast is smoke from DEC uncontrolled burn’s. In another 100 years all you will smell 100 miles offshore is the dust from sand storms blowing across a desert dust bowl devoid of any flora & fauna.
The DEC start hundreds of fires indiscriminately every year that get out of control & destroy all in their path. At what cost to the wildlife & plants?
It’s time the bureaucrats & academics within the DEC & Fesa are ousted & a commonsense approach taken when creating fire breaks.
It is the policy of the DEC to burn & incinerate all of our state forest & national parks under the guise of protecting homes & life with no consideration in mind at all for our beautiful & rich native plants & what is left of our dwindling wildlife, much of which is on the brink of extinction.
The DEC are experts at scare mongering the public into believing that we need to burn, burn , burn at all cost.
Has the DEC heard of perimeter burning & creating buffers around townships & dwellings? You don’t need to let thousands of hectares of bush burn out of control to achieve this.
The rest of the public can only burn in late autumn, winter and early spring. This is a less intense fire and easier to control which any normal person would understand if they have done this.
It’s quite obvious that the government & the DEC cannot manage our forests. They have little or no regard for flora or fauna & certainly do not care what happens to it in the future. You only need to fly over WA to see what is left of this country.
The catch phrases of the day are “High Risk Bush Fire season !” “Climate Change !” “Very Wet Winter !” “Catastrophic Weather Conditions !” And the Solution from Barnett to Ripper is to burn, burn & more burn!! Soon there won’t be anything left to Burn!
Our bush today is only a shell of its former glory before we started to destroy it. Ask any old person who lived in & around our forests over 60 years ago when the forest was a complete forest unaffected from foreign invasive weeds.
Greater emphasis needs to be placed on educating land holders on how to minimise the risk to their property without compromising native flora & fauna. A balance between both needs to exist.
The DEC is an acronym for Department of Environment & Conservation. I think the following Acronym’s best describe the DEC:
Deliberate Environmental Catastrophe
Destroy Eleven Cottages
Dump Erase Control
Deceitful Erratic Corrupt
Destroy End Clear
Destroying Environmental Conservation
Don’t Even Care
Death Extinction Complete
Destroy Everything Completely
I don’t like the DEC.
